OUR STORY
Geers Bros. Builders has a rich heritage of skill and knowledge upon which to build their business. It began in the 1950’s when Simon Geers started building residential homes in the Byron Center area. He passed that trade along to his son John S. Geers who started his own business in 1970. John made it a priority to teach his sons, Tim and Mike, how to build a quality home early on in as well. Tim and Mike both worked as teenagers after school for their father which led to full-time employment for each of them after graduating from South Christian High School. They began as hourly employees framing houses, doing trim carpentry work, installing siding, roofing, and concrete flatwork for all John’s homes.

LEARNING THE ROPES
John wanted to teach his sons more than just how to be good employees, though. In 1988 the father and sons trio started Geers Land Company, LLC to build several duplexes and manage them. Tim and Mike have each had a hand in the management of this company and learning what is required to own a business. During that time Tim and Mike continued to work as hourly employees for John S. Geers Builder, Inc., but also began to build speculation homes each year to learn how to work with buyers and realtors as a general contractor.
It is this hands on approach to the entire building process along with the attention to detail and communication with customers that creates an enjoyable building experience.
THE BEGINNING OF A BUSINESS
In 1996 the brothers decided it was time to step out on their own. They began Geers Bros. Builders, Inc. on April 1, 1996. In the beginning they sub-contracted framing and trimming jobs for John’s homes and also began to sub-contract for other builders. They continued building speculation homes each year which has led to clients coming to them to build custom homes. Over the past 10 years in business they have seen their company grow from 90% sub-contracting and 10% contracting to just the opposite of that. We believe this is because of the hands on approach Tim and Mike have to each custom home they build. When you see a home with a Geers Bros. Builders sign out front you know Tim and Mike will be the men with the hammers in their hands making sure the job is done just as the customer desires. It is this hands on approach to the entire building process along with the attention to detail and communication with customers that creates an enjoyable building experience.
WHO WE ARE TODAY
Mike is the first person you will meet when beginning to build your new home. He communicates with you to help you find a lot, a blue print, and walk you throughout the building process turning your unique ideas into reality.
Tim is always on the job site making sure the materials needed for your home are there promptly and keeps your project moving along swiftly. Both brothers work together to frame and trim all of our homes and leave their signature mark of craftsmanship.
Steven Geers, Tim’s son, was hired in 2014, following in his Dad’s footsteps and continuing on the family tradition.
